Christopher Schmitt is a lens-based artist residing in Ottawa, on unceded Anishinaabe territory. His work explores disruptive technologies and the impact they have on the networks of our minds, and on our land. Schmitt’s work examines the idea that perhaps this dark side is not a mirror reflection of our society, but rather a new world entirely. His work helps viewers navigate between abstraction and reality, providing visual clues to this uncertain virtual landscape.

Schmitt was the recipient of a City of Ottawa Creation and Production Grant in 2022 and recently completed a residencies at the SPAO Centre and the Ingenium Research Centre in Ottawa.  Schmitt has exhibited his work at the SPAO Gallery, the City of Ottawa's Corridor 45|75 Gallery, online at ArtDoc. His photos have been published in PhotoEd Magazine, Do it for the Grain, and the Ottawa Photography & Art Label (OPAL) Magazine. His artwork has been purchased by the City of Ottawa and by private collectors.
